NEW BEDFORD, Massachusetts — The Northeast A’s B4 Futsal Charity Spectacular will be held on Sunday, November 18, at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford. The event will be a showcase of local talent and all proceeds from the event will go to support the youth soccer and futsal community.

Through a partnership between A’s B4 and the Northeast Futsal Association, the Southcoast community has the opportunity to witness and experience futsal in a way that brings the region’s best players together for a greater cause beyond winning and losing.

“We want to be able to provide soccer and futsal equipment; whether it be balls, pinnies, goals, whatever it may be, to those that can not afford it on their own,” said Manny DeBrito, executive director of the non-profit organization, A’s B4.

The Northeast A’s B4 Futsal Charity Spectacular will take place on the evening of Sunday, November 18, with a series of all-star games between youth, high school, college and professional players. Doors will open at 3 pm and the games will kick off hourly at 4 pm with the event concluding at 7 pm. The event will feature live music and raffle prizes. The suggested donation is $10 per attendee and all proceeds will go toward providing equipment to the youth soccer and futsal community. We Got Soccer, the largest soccer retailer in New England, has pledged to support the event.

Futsal is a variant of soccer played on a hard court, smaller than a football pitch, and mainly indoors. Futsal is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutions are permitted. The game’s fast pace makes it a fun spectator sport and the Southcoast community has a strong history of success at the national and international level.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to provide more resources for our community,” said Zach Rocha, president of Northeast Futsal Association and a New Bedford native. “The event itself will be a smash hit. We look forward to bringing everyone in our community together in order to help those less fortunate experience the joy and fun of sports.”

DeBrito was inspired to reach out to Rocha after he was told the story by New Bedford resident, Matt Golden, of the plight of Somalian refugees playing soccer in Lewiston, Maine.

“We know that inner-city kids often have a need for the proper equipment. I know that they love sports and the game of soccer and we simply want to help them play,” DeBrito said.
